Ten-second read
Paste a message and see how far a buyer gets in 10 seconds, and how long the whole thing takes.
What a buyer gets through
A buyer gives a cold message about 10 seconds before deciding whether the rest is worth it. In that time they get through roughly the first 38 words, subject included.
Paste your message to see where those 10 seconds run out and how long the whole thing takes to read. You also get the formatting facts that make it hard going on a phone.
It counts words, so it can't tell where your point lands, which is what matters most. My check finds the point and your ask, and times the read up to there.
Questions
How is the time worked out?
At 230 words a minute, the middle of the range usually quoted for business writing, and a little slower for hard text. The subject counts; the sign-off doesn't. It's the same sum my check uses.
Why 10 seconds?
That's about what a buyer gives a cold message before deciding whether to keep going. The whole message can be longer, as long as the point and the ask come early.
Can it tell where my point lands?
No. It counts words, so it can't tell where your point lands. A check finds the point and your ask, and times them.
Is what I paste kept?
No. Your message is read in memory to time it, then dropped. It isn't saved anywhere.
Would I reply?
For a buyer's read of the whole message, with a rewrite, there's the check: £5.
